Is there any way to shape your hair without using hair gel?

I use hair gel every morning after I get out of the shower to shape my hair the way I want but I dont like how the gel makes my hair all hard and whatnot. Is there anything I can use to get the same form but without gel?Is there any way to shape your hair without using hair gel?
Hair balm is great and doesnt dry hard. Also some waxes keep your hair soft and texturised but not hard. Don't use too much or you look greasy, its not the same as gel! Look for a simple texturising wax, and if there is a tester, rub a little between fingers. if it melts and goes shiny then it won't go hard, if it goes sticky, it probably will. Umm you can use moisturizer also to shape hair. Gel can somewhat damage your hair if used to often.
