What kind of hairspray for women and hair gel for men was most popular in the 1950s?

What brand names? What did the labels say/look like? I'm talking about the Grease-era.What kind of hairspray for women and hair gel for men was most popular in the 1950s?
In the UK for men it was Brylliantine and Brylcream. I used Brylcream to plaster down my longer-than-regulation hair in the navy. It was disgusting stuff like hand cream that stays slimy, and shiny. I never used Brylliantine. I think it was a clear gel. What kind of hairspray for women and hair gel for men was most popular in the 1950s?
